DESCRIPTION
Ellis Hall is Missouri State University’s Department of Music.  The building was originally built in 1959 with a total of 38,600 square feet. Ellis Hall has a three story north tower, a two story connector (partially below grade), and the main recital hall on the south side of the building. This building surrounds an interior courtyard that is open to the west. Through the major renovation of this building 6,500 square feet were added to the connector for a total of 45,100 square feet. Key to the renovation design was to allow more natural light in while maintaining high acoustic quality.

SCOPE OF SERVICES
W.J. Higgins & Associates, Inc. was contracted by Patterhn Ives, LLC to assist with the design phase activities Schematic Design through Construction Documents, Bid Negotiation, Construction Administration and Final Closeout activities. Our scope included preliminary evaluation of the existing façade assemblies, development of glazing assemblies and metal details, research and development of the Prodema rainscreen façade including the Prodema fins (sun shades) attached to the aluminum curtain wall system. In addition to meeting the aesthetic intent of Patterhn Ives, WJH&A was challenged with maintaining the acoustical separation floor to floor and room to room; working closely with the acoustical consultant and design team we were able to satisfy the parameters outlined by the team.  Following the design phase, we assisted the team with evaluations of the building enclosure bids for conformance to the Project Specifications and Construction Documents. Through the shop drawing and submittal phases, we assisted with the project team with review and coordination of the façade components and details to maintain the specified performance while meeting the Architect’s aesthetic intent. WJH&A conducted a site visit to evaluate the installed assemblies for conformance with the Construction Documents and approved Shop Drawings.
